The Car Parking & Traffic Management sub group have achieved success in reducing long term car parking in Sleaford, charges were reduced in one of the long term car parks in Sleaford offering commuters a cheaper alternative for all day parking.
The traffic congestion in the town is being addressed in a different way, looking at alternative, sustainable transport through encouraging commuters to cycle to work. A large percentage of workers in Sleaford travel by car less than 2km and could travel by cycle. The BID is, whilst working in partnership with North Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Council are installing cycle storage in Sleaford. This includes, a covered shelter, cycle racks and secure, dry cycle lockers. All are free of charge to use, except the cycle lockers which will be run on a permit basis through the BID.
Recently a full car parking strategy was commissioned by North Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Council with the BID acting as consultees. This has now been completed and recommends a host of measures to counteract travel problems in the town. Encouraging alternative transport, lowering the cost of long term car parking and parking management programmes to tackle the problems of on street parking are all included in the strategy. Recommendations are being worked on by the respective authorities.
